Ottawa’s Favorite Vietnamese Rolls — Handmade Since 1989

Whether you call them spring rolls, salad rolls, or by their Vietnamese names — chả giò and gỏi cuốn — Vietnam Palace has been rolling them fresh by hand for over 35 years. They’re one of the most-ordered items on our menu, and for good reason.

Fresh Salad Rolls (Gỏi Cuốn)

Our salad rolls are the perfect starter. Soft rice paper wrapped around fresh shrimp, sliced pork, rice vermicelli, lettuce, mint, and cilantro. Served with our house-made peanut hoisin dipping sauce.

Each roll is made to order — not pre-made and sitting in a fridge. That’s why the rice paper is perfectly soft, the herbs are vibrant, and the shrimp is sweet and tender. This is what authentic Vietnamese salad rolls should taste like.

Salad Roll Variations

  • Classic Gỏi Cuốn — Shrimp and pork with herbs
  • Vegetarian Rolls — Tofu, vegetables, and fresh herbs
  • Grilled Meat Rolls — With chargrilled pork or chicken

Crispy Spring Rolls (Chả Giò)

Our crispy spring rolls are legendary. A crispy, golden shell filled with seasoned ground pork, taro, glass noodles, wood ear mushrooms, and vegetables — deep-fried to perfection. Served with fresh lettuce, herbs, and our tangy nước chấm fish sauce.

The secret to our spring rolls is the filling-to-wrapper ratio. Too much wrapper and it’s all crunch, no flavor. Too much filling and it falls apart. After 35 years, we’ve got it dialed in perfectly.

How to Eat Vietnamese Spring Rolls

If you’re new to Vietnamese spring rolls, here’s the authentic way to enjoy them:

  1. Take a piece of fresh lettuce
  2. Place a spring roll on the lettuce leaf
  3. Add fresh herbs (mint, cilantro, perilla)
  4. Wrap it up like a small bundle
  5. Dip in nước chấm (fish sauce with lime, garlic, and chili)
  6. Enjoy the perfect bite — crispy, fresh, tangy, and savory

Why Our Rolls Are Ottawa’s Best

  • Handmade daily — Never frozen, never pre-packaged
  • Fresh herbs — Real Vietnamese herbs, sourced daily
  • House-made sauces — Our peanut sauce and nước chấm are made in-house
  • Generous portions — Our rolls are generously sized, not tiny appetizer portions
  • 35+ years of practice — We’ve been perfecting these since 1989

More Vietnamese Appetizers

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of spring rolls does Vietnam Palace offer?

We offer both fresh spring rolls (goi cuon) wrapped in rice paper with shrimp, pork, vermicelli, and fresh herbs, and crispy imperial rolls (cha gio) that are deep-fried to golden perfection. We also have vegetarian spring roll options.

What is the difference between fresh and fried spring rolls?

Fresh spring rolls (goi cuon) are wrapped in soft rice paper and served cold with peanut dipping sauce — light and refreshing. Fried spring rolls (cha gio or imperial rolls) are wrapped in a crispy shell and deep-fried, served with fish sauce and lettuce for wrapping. Both are popular Vietnamese appetizers.

Are your spring rolls gluten-free?

Our fresh spring rolls are made with rice paper, which is naturally gluten-free. However, our fried imperial rolls use wheat-based wrappers. Please let our staff know about any dietary restrictions and we will help you choose the right option.

Can I order spring rolls for a party or catering?

Yes! Spring rolls are one of our most popular catering items for parties and events in Ottawa. Contact Vietnam Palace to discuss large orders — we can prepare platters of fresh or fried spring rolls for your next gathering.

What dipping sauces come with your spring rolls?

Our fresh spring rolls come with a creamy peanut hoisin dipping sauce, while our fried imperial rolls are served with traditional nuoc cham (fish sauce with lime, garlic, and chili). Both sauces are made in-house daily.

Are vegetarian spring rolls available?

Yes! We offer vegetarian versions of both fresh and fried spring rolls, filled with tofu, vegetables, mushrooms, and vermicelli noodles. They are a delicious plant-based appetizer option at Vietnam Palace.
